Expert Insight: 3 Tips for Aspiring Cybersecurity Pros
Shared by O Mabry, Network Security Architect at Cisco
Discover Your Learning Style
Everyone learns differently, so determine the best approach to retaining information. You can create accountability partners to quiz or discuss topics of interest. Gamify learning for retention, while understanding if self-paced, class instruction, or a combination of both works for you. In addition, create a learning budget because you can’t depend on your employer to train you.
Time Management
Create a schedule for daily learning and milestones for yourself. This will help you keep track of your progression with a set of hours dedicated to a topic with a timeframe for developing a comfortable level of understanding. Once you have established a comfort level, you can reteach it to someone else, which is a great method for retention
Establish a Network of Mentors
A great way to network is to join an organization to give back to the community. Networking is a great way to meet mentors. Connect with multiple mentors across diverse fields to help you become a well-rounded individual.
