Want to grow your career and strengthen Memphis tech? Give a local talk.

Every time a technologist shares what they know, something shifts:

  • Breakthroughs: Your clarity becomes someone else’s “aha” moment.

  • Growth: Teaching levels you up—and Memphis rises with you.

  • Credibility: Sharing locally roots your expertise in the community.

  • Connections: The right collaborator or mentor may be sitting in the audience.

  • Visibility: Doors open when people remember your talk.

We’ve seen this play out across the city:

  • At Memphis Data Professionals, speakers helped analysts sharpen Tableau and Power BI skills.

  • At Design & Code, frontend developers gained mentorship from senior UX/UI leaders.

Voices of Memphis Tech

Otha Mabry

Network Security Architect | Public Speaker

In Memphis, true leadership shows up in the people who choose to teach, and Mr. Otha Mabry is one of the builders shaping our city’s cybersecurity future. With more than a decade as a Cisco Network Security Architect and nearly ten years teaching Cybersecurity and Cisco courses at ITT Tech, he brings both mastery and mentorship into every room. His lessons don’t just transfer knowledge; they raise the confidence of a growing Memphis tech workforce.

At Hack Memphis 2025, Mabry guided participants through immersive Cybersecurity and AI Hacking Labs, turning complex threats into hands-on skills the community can immediately apply.

When he speaks at Southwest Tennessee Community College, students leave with strategies for interviews, study habits, and industry awareness. Practical tools that help them step into Memphis’ evolving tech economy.

And at Whitehaven High School, he shows young minds how curiosity becomes opportunity, walking them through Google Hacking, data breach checks, and prompt injection attacks in ways that spark ambition rather than fear.

His impact continued at LeMoyne-Owen’s Next in Tech Conference, where he led students from “You Spent All That Money and Still Got Hacked” into a fully immersive “Hacking AI 101” workshop.

Each moment reinforced a truth Memphis is learning together: cybersecurity isn’t just a field, it’s a shared responsibility, a community investment, and a pathway to mobility for the next generation.

Mabry’s work reminds us that when experts choose to teach, they don’t just shape careers; they strengthen Memphis itself.

AI as a Tireless Apprentice, or a Risky Disruptor?

At our latest tech gathering, Melanie Suria, CEO of Memphis Computer Support, gave one of the most grounded, people‑first takes on AI we’ve heard this year. She framed AI not as hype, but as a “tireless apprentice” already helping doctors, boosting accessibility, and strengthening local businesses.

But Melanie didn’t shy away from the hard truths: biased data, deepfakes, privacy erosion, and cybercrime are rising threats Memphis must prepare for. Her call to action? Slow down when needed, test for safety, and build transparency into every step.
